The new Sony VAIO X Series ultraportable notebook is expected to be released any minute, but there’s little known about this sleek new notebook. We have managed to dig around a bit, and find some details for you between now and when it finally hits UK shelves. US reports have claimed a RRP of $1499, so not on the cheap side then, and UK prices will no doubt be similar. To reinforce this rather heavy price tag, Sony have announced that the VAIO X Series will be the world’s lightest notebook, and will boast a 14 hour battery life (with use of a “super extended” battery). Using carbon fibre to keep the weight down, the VAIO X series has some pretty exotic materials in it’s shell, and it does go someway towards justifying such a high price, although the most important factor – performance, will have to be judged at a later date.
In addition to super light weight, and almost imortal battery life, the Sony VAIO X Series will feature an 11.1 inch LED screen, SSD and a multitouch trackpad. Unfortuantely computing power is provided by a 2.0GHz Atom Z550 processor which could prove to be a little under powered considering the price.
